Liberian president signs new budget act into law


(MONROVIA - August 06, 2008): President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has signed the Act approving the budget for the 2008/2009 fiscal year in the amount of USD$298,087,792.00 (two hundred ninety-eight million; eighty-seven thousand; seven hundred ninety-two United States Dollars). The largest allocations in the budget are for health, education, and infrastructure, which reflect the priorities of the nation’s citizens. The Act was submitted to the President on Tuesday by the National Legislature.

Liberians In Staten Island Cancel Elections...Hold Service for July 26


The Staten Island Liberian Community Association (SILCA) has rescheduled its leadership election to an unknown date, in a bid to prevent tension and chaos, few hours into the July 19’s polls. The election had pitted Telee Brown, the organization’s current Vice-President against Tamba Dabah, a leader of a community group called Community Action for Change (CAC) in what was described as a tension-packed political process. Both contenders are vying to succeed President George Curtis, jr. who has reportedly reached his term limit.
